What Is Inner Child Healing, Really?

Inner child healing is a form of emotional and psychological work rooted in reparenting, trauma-informed therapy, and subconscious rewiring. It’s based on the idea that many of our adult patterns, like perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional reactivity, or fear of abandonment stem from unmet needs and unresolved emotions from childhood.

According to psychologists like Dr. Nicole LePera, also known as The Holistic Psychologist, our core beliefs and nervous system patterns are formed in the first 7 years of life. If we experienced emotional neglect, inconsistency, or were taught to suppress our feelings, we may carry those imprints into adulthood without even realizing it.

Inner child healing helps us become aware of those imprints, bring compassion to the parts of us that are still holding on, and begin the process of reparenting ourselves. It’s not about blaming our caregivers, it’s about freeing ourselves from the patterns that no longer serve us.

My Story: The High Achiever and the Generational Healing

Growing up, I was a high achiever. I was school president, enrolled in dance, piano, martial arts, always moving, always performing, always creating. I thrived in the spotlight… or at least, that’s how it looked from the outside.I took pride in being the one who could do it all and do it well. I was the teacher’s pet. The favorite. The one who always wanted to be seen as kind, smart, and impressive. But behind that polished image was a nervous system in overdrive… and a little girl who didn’t yet understand her sensitivity.

What I didn’t know at the time was that I’m a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). I felt everything, deeply and intuitively. I picked up on tone shifts and the emotions others weren’t saying out loud. And I made it all mean something about me. If someone at school didn’t like me, I thought I had done something wrong, I would internalized it. My self-worth quietly became dependent on how I was perceived and I was bullied in elementary school. I never learned how to speak up and stand up for myself when I felt hurt. 

Eventually, I lost touch with my own needs, because I had never been taught how to truly honor them. Years later, it all started unraveling in a way I couldn’t ignore. The perfectionism. The anxiety. The overthinking. The subtle ways I kept abandoning myself. And that’s when I found inner child healing. This work didn’t just help me understand my patterns. It helped me uncover where they came from. I began seeing how I was carrying more than just my own pain. I was holding onto generational wounds that didn’t start with me.

My grandmother used to talk about how her husband left her. I remember hearing the sadness in her voice… and feeling it like it was my own. I didn’t realize at the time that I had absorbed her abandonment wound. That I was carrying the pain of women in my lineage who had been left by men, silenced, or made to feel unworthy of love. I had no idea how much ancestral grief I was holding in my body, until this work gave me a way to finally release it.

Through inner child healing, I began to:

Let go of abandonment wounds I didn’t even know were shaping my relationships

Reconnect to the softness and sensitivity I had once been ashamed of

Break cycles of emotional suppression that ran through generations of women before me

Give my younger self the safety and love she was always worthy of

This work gave me my power back.

It helped me become the woman I needed when I was a little girl and in doing so, I began healing not just for me…

but for my mother, my grandmother, and the women who came before them too.

The Inner Child Healing Workshop

Week 4: Self-Love Through Your Love Language

Learn how to meet your emotional needs in a way that truly lands through the lens of your unique love language. Reclaim your right to receive love in the way you were always meant to.

Week 5: Rewriting Core Beliefs

Identify and rewire limiting beliefs like “I’m not enough,” “I’m too much,” or “Love has to be earned.” This week supports deep subconscious transformation.

Week 6: Reparenting and Integration

Learn how to become the safe, loving presence you never had. This week gives you tangible tools to embody your healing and carry it forward into daily life.
